Dewey 2008

Well I’m here! I actually arrived at the beach house yesterday around 3:30pm.  I unloaded the car, took Cody for a walk and then hung out at the house the rest of the night with a short trip for a fine dining experience at Taco Bell.  smile

Cody and I got up at 7:30 today, took or morning walk and now I’m enjoying some cafe con leche and croissant from Cafe A Go-Go. Now that’s good eats!

There is a Starbucks now at the end of Rehoboth Ave and as much as I love me some Sbux, it still doesn’t beat the home brew mexican coffees of of Cafe A Go-Go. I wonder how much business they have lost though.

Off to enjoy a nice relaxing day at the beach!

Home, Sweet, Home

Well we are back home now. Made the trip in 4:15 which is pretty good with no stops. Cody and I did one last beach walk at 8am before stopping at Cafe A Go-Go to get one last cup of java with Beth and then say good bye and head for home. Always a bittersweet moment.

And rumor has it that the Chai Tea Latte at CAGG is better than Starbucks!  wink

*sigh* until next year…

Sunday: Crazy hot and millions of people!

Today was a day in Rehoboth like I’ve never seen before. There were tons of people on the beach and the Ave was packed tight. I’ve never seen it like this you’d think it was the middle of July. We attempted to walk on the beach but Cody was beat from the day befores excursion and just wanted to lay in the water. So back to the house we went for some A/C and then just enjoyed the weather on the sun porch.

Should be a quiet evening before heading back home tomorrow morning.

Ocean City, Maryland

Yesterday my friend Beth and I took a drive down to Ocean City (I had no idea it was so close!) and walked on the boardwalk there for a couple of hours with our dogs. Even though it was October it was pretty busy, plus I’m sure the car show they had this weekend helped that as well. We walked all the way up and down the boardwalk and lots of people where stopping us to ask us about greyhounds. It was like our own little mini meet & greet.

It was a fun time but the doggies were exhausted by the time we got back to the car. They slept good on the ride home!

CBS Early Show

The CBS Early Show was filming on the beach this morning starting at around 7:45. Some stations got a live feed and others are airing the segment later on in the morning.

So if you have good eyes, you might be able to see Cody and I as we rolled out of bed early and were in the sea of people and greyhounds.

Friday Summary

Today was the big start of the event. Lots of greyhounds, lots of vendors and even more greyhounds everywhere.

The weather was a bit overcast but warm so it was a good day. Cody and I visited a few friends but refrained from buying anything… so far.

Not much going ons in the evening, or at least I wasn’t invited to anything. So it was a pretty quiet night just hanging out with some good company.

We got our photo taken!

Finally after 3 years of trying Cody and I finally had our pictures taken by Praveen. We tried the past two years but the weather was never on our side, but apparently 3 times a charm!

I also ran into Robin and Linda on the beach. Loca was on her best behavior.  rolleyes

First walk on the beach

This morning, after my stop at Cafe a Go-Go, Cody and I headed to the beach at the end of McKinley for our first walk in the sand. We met Beth and Hope there and while we chatted Cody, being the big monkey that he is, jumped around in the sand and dug some holes. It was pretty overcast but still warm weather with a nice breeze off the water. It’s supposed to burn off by the afternoon and get even warmer as well.

Right now Cody is snoozing on the couch and I’m just finishing up my cafe con leche.

Wish you were here.  tongue laugh

Greyhounds starting to arrive

Seems today was the day that greyhounds have started to arrive en mass.

I just got back from Rehoboth Ave and there were probably 20 or so with their humans just waiting for passerbys to give them some ear scritches.

It’s been a pretty warm and humid all day which is definitely a nice change from recent years. Weather outlook still looks ok for the weekend as well.

I haven’t actually gone into Dewey proper yet but will probably do that tomorrow for a morning walk on the beach. I’m going to try and get Cody’s and my photo taken tomorrow afternoon as well. I’ve missed Praveen the past two years, can’t miss him this year! Unfortunately my Pretty girl isn’t with us this year though.

Not sure what the rest of the night will bring us. Hrmmm…

I'm so proud of Cody

The house we are renting has hardwood floors and if you know Cody, you know he doesn’t like to walk on them. There are a couple of area rugs that he can move from but just in the few days we’ve been here already he’s already ventured half way down the hallway and almost went into the kitchen. He’s still a little tentative on them and likes to stay close to the walls but he’s getting brave, these floors aren’t slippery so thats helping as well. I haven’t tried to push him to do them since there are enough save zones for him, but when I’m in the kitchen and he wants to know where I am there isn’t much choice on how to get there.

There are 5 bedrooms in the house and we are staying on the first floor since I don’t think he’s brave enough yet to try the uncarpeted hardwood staircase.  smile

Ok, off to get some cafe con leche and breakfast!

All tuckered out

After a fairly quiet day of a few short walks and a trip back to the store for some supplies Cody and I ventured down to Rehoboth Ave. It’s a .75 mile walk there, plus walking up and down the ave and back probably made it close to a 3mile hike.

And of course people are stopping us left and right to see a greyhound up close and admire Cody, and trust me he doesn’t mind the attention.

Now its a quiet evening of some TV and Mikes Hard Lime (for me, not Cody).

Tuesday Morning

Surprisingly I had a good night sleep last night, which is unusual for me on a strange bed. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my pillows (I had them on the list so I’m not sure what happened) so I had to use the ones here and of course I didn’t pack pillow cases since I was expecting to bring my own pillows so I get to go out today and buy some cheap ones. Joy.

Whats with the rental houses not stocking TP! I mean there was like 3 sheets left on the roll and no emergency backup. D’OH!

Stopped at Cafe a GoGo this morning for some cafe con leche and a croissant. Gotta love that place! mmmm, mmmm, good. I know I’m normally a DD fan but there is nothing like some homemade mexican coffee. Starbucks ain’t got nothing on this place! I’ve been dying to go back since I was last here in April.

This not having wi-fi at the house blows goats. So I’m tied to a modem line or using my iPhone to surf. Must.Get.House.With.Wireless.Next.Year.

Cody is snoozing right now and I’m debating what our day shall bring us. Think we will walk to Rehoboth Ave and see whats new in town.

Popeye's First Timer

Well tonight for dinner in Dewey I decided to stop at Popeye’s. I wasn’t in any type of fancy food mood so this did the trick.

It wasn’t bad. I had the chicken strips with mashed potatoes and gravy. Definitely different than KFC, although I’m not sure it deserves the critical acclaim Jeff has given it. But I’d eat it again if I had to.

The real test is to see how I feel in the morning!

Dewey 2007: We have arrived!

Well Cody and I made the journey to Dewey once again. This time we are making an extended vacation out of it from Monday to Monday. A little R&R never hurt anyone. wink

But our trip is never without adventure. As we were stopped at the Walt Whitman rest area in Jersey I was approached by a gay ex-priest (not that there is anything wrong with that) asking about greyhounds. Of course I really couldn’t get a word in edgewise since he was a chatty cathy and wasn’t asking anything very specific. He mentioned he lived in Lewes and I told him about the event this weekend then he started to ask me where I was staying. I’M NOT TELLING YOU THAT!!! I really know how to attract them! Would it be too much to ask to have a stacked hot blond approach me?

The house we are renting is nice. Very rustic, a little dark, but over all comfortable, once I figured out which light switches did what. The yard isn’t totally fenced unfortunately. Looks like part of the fence was taken down/blown over on one side. Oh well, no running around for Cody. The area we are in is called “The Pines” and there are a LOT of pines, especially the needles, EVERYWHERE!

Well off to take a walk and grab some dinner.
